Join a Local Committee

The ETFO Toronto Occasional Teachers’ Local has 10 standing committees and 4 ad hoc committees. Joining a Committee is a great way to get involved and meet other members of the Local!

Most committees meet a few times a year in order to provide workshops or host events for members, with others focused on drafting documents to be approved by the membership at the May Annual Meeting. Click here for more information on the individual committees!

Become an ETFO Annual Meeting Delegate

Annual Meeting Delegates attend the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Annual Meeting held in mid-August with representatives from every ETFO Local across the province. Delegates are provided with single room accommodations at the hotel, a meal reimbursement, and a ticket to the Wednesday evening gala, in exchange for attending the meeting from Monday eventing through to Thursday mid-day. Delegates vote on important matters such as new initiatives, the budget, and changes to the ETFO constitution. Elections for the Annual Meeting Delegates are held at the Winter General Meeting. Alternates are also needed to ensure seats are filled! If you are interested in being an alternate, please contact any of the Local Released Officers.

Join the Local Executive

The Local Executive consists of 12 TDSB elementary occasional teachers. The President, First Vice-President, Vice-President (Open) and Vice-President (Women Only) are fully released from the classroom, and work to represent members, answer phones, bargain with the board, ensure the Collective Agreement is upheld, and work with committees (to name a few responsibilities) on a full time basis. The Treasurer is partially released (0.3) and is responsible for processing payments, liaising with the bookkeeper and bank, and drafting a budget with the Budget Committee. The Secretary is responsible for attending and taking minutes at Executive Meetings, Local General Meetings, and the Annual Meeting, and is compensated a half day pay for each set of minutes. Finally, there are six Executive Members, three each of Open and Women Only, who are responsible for attending Executive Meetings and vote on motions to advance the business of the local. All non-released members of the Executive are compensated for attending Executive Meetings. Elections for the Local Executive are held at the Annual Meeting in May.
